1. Can you reach the data

Before anything else, you need to connect to the applicant's bank. That means broad institution coverage and reliable access, across both the Consumer Data Right and a secure web crawler. Where access is narrow or unreliable, applications stall at the first step, and the applicants who fall out are often the ones you most want.

2. How easily can the applicant complete

Once a connection is possible, completion depends on how easy the process is: the number of steps, the clarity of each screen, how a failed attempt is handled. Small changes here move real numbers, and the only honest way to know what works is to test it. We treat the customer journey as something to A/B test and refine for each client, not set once and leave.

It also helps to give the applicant a way to switch between open banking and a crawler themselves, so if one path does not suit, they can complete another way rather than drop out.

3. How fast and well you read what comes back

The last lever is what happens after the data arrives: a fast, accurate read, complete transaction classification, and insights the lender can act on. This is where more applications turn into confident, automated decisions instead of manual reviews or drop-offs.

Conversion is a shared goal

None of the three works in isolation. The infrastructure, the journey and the decisioning have to pull together, which makes conversion a shared job between provider and lender rather than something handed over and forgotten. Get all three right and conversion rises, without loosening a single credit rule.

Reach the data, reduce the friction, read it fast and well. The three levers reinforce each other, and TaleFin is built around all of them.
